Maejo University Participates in the International Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Applied Solutions Competition 2026 at National Ilan University

On May 6, 2026, at National Ilan University, Taiwan, the “International Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Applied Solutions Competition 2026” was held under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Technologies and Entrepreneurship for Agricultural, Environmental, and Social Impact.” The event was attended by executives, academics, and representatives from various international higher education institutions.The afternoon session began with the opening ceremony and welcome remarks, featuring reports and greetings delivered by representatives from both universities. The program also included an exchange of souvenirs, a group photo session, and an Innovation Poster Presentation showcasing innovative works.This was followed by a series of Keynote Sessions delivered by distinguished speakers from various fields, including AIoT and smart agriculture, circular agriculture for sustainable tourism, and innovations in food, health, and sustainability. The sessions featured speakers from National Ilan University, an agri-tourism entrepreneur, and executives from Maejo University, who shared their expertise and experiences.In addition, the fourth keynote session titled “Innovation Ecosystems for Sustainable Futures” was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University, reflecting his vision for driving innovation toward a sustainable future.

Maejo University Strengthens Global Academic and Research Networks through MOU Signings with Wuling Farm and National Ilan University

On May 6, 2026,Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University, presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Maejo University and Wuling Farm. The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration in agriculture, environmental management, and sustainable development.On the same occasion, a second MOU was signed between the Faculty of Science at Maejo University and the College of Bioresources at the National Ilan University. This agreement establishes a Natural Science Dual Degree Program at both the Master’s and Ph.D. levels, supporting joint academic programs, student and staff exchanges, and collaborative research in natural sciences and bioresources.Following the signing ceremonies, executives from both institutions held an academic discussion to explore further avenues for future collaboration, including joint research, curriculum development, and long-term institutional partnership strategies.

Universitas Gadjah Mada Visits Maejo University

On April 27, 2026, a delegation from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia, visited the Maejo Natural Farming Research and Development Center, which also hosts a cannabis cultivation research facility. The visit aimed to exchange knowledge and explore research and development in organic agriculture and cannabis-related studies.During the visit, the delegation was welcomed by researchers from the Maejo Natural Farming Research and Development Center, who delivered a special lecture on medical cannabis. The lecture highlighted recent research progress, potential applications, and its benefits in healthcare and agriculture.In addition, Dr. Krittiya Tongkoom, a lecturer at the International College, and Mr. Warunsiri Sujinda, Director of the International College, led the delegation on a campus tour of the university.

The 7th International Joint Graduate Seminar (IJGS)A Global Forum in Animal and Agricultural SciencesMaejo University, in collaboration with Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, just held the 7th International Joint Graduate Seminar (IJGS). Maejo University and Universitas Gadjah Mada served as the hosts of this event, held on April 27, 2026, at Maejo University, Chiang Mai, Thailand. This event was held simultaneously with the Joint International Innovation & Applied Solution Competition 2026 (MJU–NIU).The conference featured an official opening ceremony, honored by senior administrators from both institutions, with opening speeches and welcoming words to all the attendees.First, Associate Prof. Dr. Rapeephun Dangtungee, Dean, International College, Maejo University, gave a few introductory remarks about this conference. He was followed by Prof. Dr. Budi Guntoro, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada, who made general remarks about this annual event.The ceremony formally began when Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President, Maejo University, delivered his characteristically warm and encouraging opening remarks.The opening ceremony concluded with a group photograph session.This important event provided an international platform for graduate students, both Master’s and Doctoral candidates, to present their research, exchange ideas with their peers, and build academic networks in the fields of animal and agricultural science.

Maejo University Organizes Annual Rod Nam Dam Hua Ceremony 2026 to Preserve Lanna New Year Traditions

On Friday, 24 April 2026, Maejo University held its annual Rod Nam Dam Hua (traditional water-pouring) ceremony for senior members and the University President for the year 2026, as part of the Lanna New Year (Pi Mai Mueang) tradition preservation.The event was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Thep Pongpanich, President of the University Council, who presided over the New Year blessings ceremony. On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Weeraphon Thongma, President of Maejo University, represented the university in offering apologies and New Year blessings.Following this, the university’s executive team and representatives from each faculty and office participated in presenting traditional “Dam Hua” offerings to the senior members at the Thotsaminthon Bophit Sports Center, Maejo University.The Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony for the University President and senior administrators is held annually to express respect, seek forgiveness, and pay homage to senior figures, while also preserving the Lanna New Year tradition, or Thai New Year during the Songkran festival period, ensuring its continuation for future generations.At 2:00 PM, each department organized a procession carrying their ceremonial offerings to join the event. This year’s program also included activities such as a “fun som tam (papaya salad) competition,” a “Lanna-style minced meat salad (larb) competition,” and a competition on agricultural innovation for transforming agricultural products into beverages using local wisdom, aimed at encouraging participation among staff members.

Maejo University International College Holds “Dam Hua” Ceremony to Honor Retired Personnel and Preserve Lanna Traditions

On Friday, April 24, 2026, the International College organized a “Dam Hua” ceremony to honor two retired personnel: Dr. Chomchuan Boonrahong, former lecturer of the International College, and Miss Radaporn Thongma, former Director of the Dean’s Office. On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Rapeephun Dangtungee, Dean of the International College, delivered a speech on behalf of the college to offer apologies and seek blessings. Subsequently, faculty members and staff participated in the “Dam Hua” ceremony to demonstrate their respect, gratitude, and reverence toward the esteemed individuals, as well as to ask for forgiveness and receive blessings for auspiciousness during the Songkran Festival. The ceremony also aimed to preserve the valuable cultural traditions of the Lanna community. In addition, the ceremony included the paying of respects to other senior members of the International College, conducted in a formal and respectful manner

Maejo University Celebrates Pi Mai Mueang 2026 with Traditional Water-Pouring Ritual

On Friday, April 24, 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Weerapol Thongma, President of Maejo University, together with the university’s executives, department heads, and staff, participated in a ceremonial worship and traditional water-pouring ritual to pay respect to Chao Mae Maejo and Chao Pho Maejo, the sacred guardian spirits of the university revered by the Maejo community. The ceremony was held to bring auspiciousness and to continue the tradition of the Lanna New Year Festival (Pi Mai Mueang) for 2026.

International College Pays Songkran Blessings to Maejo University President and Executive Team

On April 21, 2026Associate Professor Dr. Rapeephun Dangtungee, Dean of the International College, led a delegation of administrators, faculty members, and staff to pay respects and extend Songkran blessings in celebration of the Northern Thai Traditional New Year to Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University, along with the university’s executive team.The atmosphere was warm and filled with smiles. Traditional Lanna blessings were offered, and a water-pouring ceremony was performed as a gesture of respect and gratitude, wishing for prosperity in work, good health, and success in life.The occasion also provided an opportunity to exchange ideas and strengthen collaboration among internal units within the university for future development.This activity not only demonstrated respect for senior administrators but also promoted unity, goodwill, and the preservation of Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.
